Meet the Owners
From a Childhood Dream to the Captain’s Seat
For Ricardo, the love of aviation began as a young boy in Trinidad. Growing up with his parents and two younger sisters, he was fascinated by the sight and sound of airplanes overhead. That fascination became a calling, one that led him to earn his wings in Trinidad and Tobago before heading to Canada to complete his multi-commercial instrument rating.
The journey wasn’t without challenges, but Ricardo’s passion, love, and dedication to flying kept him focused through every obstacle. “Just turn up!” he says, a personal philosophy that carried him from student pilot to airline captain.
Why We Started Hangar 913
After years of flying, Ricardo wanted to give others the same opportunity to pursue their aviation dreams, without the barriers that so often stand in the way. When several pilots began inquiring about possibly renting their planes, Ricardo realized he might be on to something. His vision was simple – create a safe, welcoming, and more economical path into aviation.
That vision resonated with Julissa, who grew up in New York City and later Florida, raised alongside her two sisters and two brothers in a family that valued hard work and perseverance. “With God, all things are possible,” she says, a belief that shapes the way she approaches both life and the school.
Together, they built Hangar 913 to be more than a flight school. It’s a family-owned and operated space where aspiring pilots can learn with discipline, honesty, and integrity.
The Story Behind the Name
“Hangar 913” isn’t just a catchy name, it’s personal. The number comes from Ricardo’s first T-hangar at McCollum, and as Julissa later pointed out, it also happens to be his birthday.
A Family in Flight
Running the school is truly a team effort. Ricardo brings his airline pilot experience and dedication to training the next generation, while Julissa manages daily communications, talking with new instructors and students almost every day. What they love most is helping others take that first step into the skies and leave with more than a license, they hope every graduate walks away with a career and a skill set that lasts a lifetime.
